Carmel Buckley–Falling Asleep (Sneeze project)

“the sneeze 80 x 80, a featur(ed) film,” 2004–08, Iziko South Africa National Gallery, Cape Town, and Durban Art Gallery, Durban, South Africa, University of Cincinnati, Reed Gallery, Cincinnati, OH, The Substation, Johannesburg, and Albany Art Museum, Grahamstown, South Africa, Gazon Rouge Gallery, Athens, Greece

Group exhibition

This exhibition compiled the work of 80 international artists each contributing an 80-second video which assembled and played together in random order to make a combined work that was approximately the same length as a feature film. The piece I submitted was a video of an eye closing and falling asleep. The video piece was a departure for me and offered me a chance to work in an experimental way, outside of my usual concerns. Other artists that contributed included Ernesto Neto, Michael Smith, and Ellen Cantor.
